Vintage Wedding Advertisements from the 1940s

Last year, as we were planning our wedding, my grandmother came across some vintage wedding advertisements she and my grandfather received back in the 1940s when they were married.  My grandfather saw value in pretty much everything and had saved these little treasures, when most people would have discarded them as junk mail.  They fascinated me, so I decided to scan them and share them with all of you.  It’s tough to imagine these prices were reality at one time … $3 for an officiant, $8.50 for a photography package, even 1 cent to mail a postcard!  I realize that salaries were also lower back then, but, c’mon … I mean, when I think about what we spent on our wedding, it hurts a little.  I think we spend over 10x what my grandparents spent on their entire wedding, on photography alone.

Based on my grandparents one (!!!) wedding photo (above), it seems like this is the place where they got married!
