It really is all mumbo-jumbo so I included this tl;dr version for people like me who have the attention span of a goldfish.
I run a business on the Internet and I get paid by showing you ads. These ads collect and store your data so other websites can creepily show you the same ad you saw before. This is called “cookies” but instead of being delicious, they track you all around the Internet, like messy inedible cookie crumbles. Cool, huh? No? Not cool? Well, SURPRISE, that’s how the Internet works. So get over it.
Haha, just kidding! This is where the GDPR comes in. Right now it only applies to people who are in the European Union but I’m tightening my privacy policies because I care about ALL OF YOU, alright? I’m being fair and nice! It’s a lot of work, so I hope you appreciate it!
So here’s the deal. When you visit my site, you’ll have to click a button that says you accept cookies on my website. It’s how I earn money, so don’t be a jerk and not accept it. I mean, it’s 100% up to you, but just sayin’ …
And I need to tell you that I use things like Google Analytics and Facebook Pixels and other tracking devices to learn cool things about my visitors like which articles are your favorites and how long you stay on each page and your age range and geographic location and stuff. It helps me run my website better and helps me create more stuff that will be relevant to you. It also lets me show you ads on Facebook, which I *DO* admit is kinda creepy, but you have to admit getting an ad showing you one of my articles isn’t nearly as creepy as being shown a sweatshirt with your last name or birth city on it. Although … what if I could write an article that includes each of your last names …. ah, forget it.
Anyway, I SWEAR I’m not using any data for evil purposes. I’m not smart enough to even know how to do that. I just want to run my business and earn revenue and buy food and Disney Dooneys, and by viewing pages on my website you help me do that. So, thank you! You’re the best. I love you a whole lot. I really do.
Also, if you want to be on my email newsletter list (AND WHO WOULDN’T!?!) you’ll need to check a box that says you agree to opt-in to my emails and content marketing. It’s basically what was happening before, except now the law says I have to make it “concise and transparent.” Pssshhh … the law … (PeeWee’s Big Adventure reference, hopefully you got it or else we can’t be friends, which is super awkward since I just declared my love for you like two seconds ago).
So … here’s the deal: If you want to be deleted from my Database of Awesomeness, you just need to send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll take care of whatever I have on my end. Boom. Because I got you, boo.
That’s it. Thanks for reading. Thanks for being here. I’m back to loving all of you, even if you don’t understand the PeeWee reference. I know I’m older than a lot of you. It’s okay. I’m coming to terms with the reality of aging. Well anyway, if you want to continue on and read the super official adult version of this stuff you can go right ahead; I need to place a call to my therapist.

Like any business we like to see if our visitors come from Google, Facebook, or another site in order to better manage the business. We use Google Analytics as our analytics package. When we login we can see which pages on this website visitors visited, the paths visitors took, where they came from and how they left. We cannot see which website you visited after you leave us however. The only way we could narrow down the information to any one individual is if only one person was on this website that day, and we knew who that was.
