For one day in Los Angeles, we all got to channel our inner Minnie Mouse, with an interactive celebration of Minnie’s influence on style and pop culture. Hosted by Disney and Refinery 29, this unique art installation was a Disney fan girl’s dream come true. From the celebrity photos on the wall, to the one-of-a-kind fashion on display, to the red carpet, everyone who visited got to experience what it must be like in Minnie’s Mary Janes. The Minnie Rocks the Dots event took place at the Paper Agency in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday January 23, 2016. My friends and I arrived shortly after the installation opened, and waited in line outside for a brief time. The team members working the event (not sure if they were with Disney or Refinery 29 or outside hires) were all dressed in adorable and abstract Minnie-influenced ensembles. While we waited in line, they passed out cute temporary tattoos from The Love and Madness.
Once inside, the first room featured a gallery of iconic celebrity photos, donning Minnie ears and attire.
There was also a large mural of classic Minnie drawings. I couldn’t resist the photo op! My polka dot bag was custom made by my friend Anita and was perfect for the event. Isn’t it so cute?
From here we were led into the main room. All around were one-of-a-kind Minnie inspired fashion pieces from well known designers, including a piece by Christian Siriano.
Also on display were upcoming merchandise items from various brands, including a makeup set from Sephora and an adorable clutch from Kate Spade. All of these items will be available to purchase later this year. The Lauren Conrad red polka dot dress is actually already available at Kohl’s.
There was also plenty of merchandise available to buy at the event. Lots of fun Rock the Dots accessories, plus exclusive Los Angeles designs.
I didn’t buy every single item but I came home with plenty. To my surprise the prices were quite reasonable, from $4 for buttons to $18 for a t-shirt.
Next we waited in the long line for the photo booth but it was worth the wait. The props were so fun!
We also signed our names to the large mural along one of the walls. I spotted a cute tsum that somebody drew!
On the way out was a red carpet, so of course we stopped for a celebrity moment.
Overall we spent a couple hours inside the gallery, and most of that time was spent in line for either merchandise or the photo booth. It was smaller than I expected, but they packed a lot of cuteness into the space. I hope we see more adult-geared Disney events like this in the future!
