We’re back today with another installment of
Ask a Disney Bride
Today we are talking about one of my favorite topics – CAKE.  This poor Disney bride has a bit of a dilemma when it comes to her wedding cake.  Read on …

{Various cakes from our Disneyland wedding food tasting}

Dear DWI,

My fiance and I had pretty much decided on our cake for our wedding.  I’m obsessed with chocolate and buttercream and my fiance agreed!  But, at my shower my Maid of Honor pointed out that some people don’t like chocolate, and that maybe we should have a vanilla option, too.  Vanilla is her favorite but I think it’s so boring!  But now I feel obligated to have two different cake flavors at the wedding, even though it’s our wedding and we both just want chocolate!  What should we do?

Signed,
Frosted in Fresno

Dear Frosted,

First – I gotta say that’s a little forward of your Maid of Honor!  She needs to remember it’s your day and at her wedding she can have all the vanilla cake she wants!  If you and your husband are committed to chocolate, then you go and have your chocolate wedding cake!  It’s your party and you can serve whatever you want to serve, and guests can choose to eat it or not. You are never going to please everyone.

The other thing to remember is, there’s a TON of different cake flavor options out there, not just chocolate and vanilla!  If you have more than one tier to work with, you might as well get at least two flavors so guests can have their choice. You can do something familiar like red velvet or carrot cake, or Disney can make a lot of custom flavor combinations.  You could do a vanilla cake with strawberries or raspberries and chocolate frosting.  You can also add a soak – maybe Chambord or Baileys – to give it some extra flavor.  Here’s a list of some possible cake and frosting flavors available via the Grand Floridian bakery, from Carrie’s blog Disney Travel Babble (availability subject to change):

Cake Flavors:

  • Yellow
  • Chocolate
  • Marble
  • Carrot
  • Red Velvet

So as you can see, you have hundreds of combinations for cakes, and not just chocolate and vanilla.

The bottom line is, it’s your wedding and you can serve whatever cake flavors you want!
