Today and tomorrow I will be very busy having fun and getting blogging educated at the Lifestyle Bloggers Conference in Downtown L.A. I won a ticket to this conference which is awesome because I’m ready and willing to soak up all the blogging knowledge I can, but my bank account has different ideas. So I’m grateful for this opportunity. To be honest, this entire week I was stressing about taking two days off from the business because I’ve had a couple tough weeks and I feel like I’m slipping behind a little. But yesterday’s Lifestyle Bloggers Conference kickoff party at Besame Cosmetics, which just happens to be located in my neighborhood, has gotten me completely pumped for the next two days.
First of all, the location. The conference is in Downtown LA which isn’t that far from Burbank and I love any excuse to visit Downtown. It’s such a different lifestyle from sleepy laid back Burbank. I think I would go a little crazy if I lived there but it’s fun to visit. But the kickoff party was right here in Burbank, at Besame Cosmetics on Magnolia. Now I talk often about how I’m not a makeup person so I’ve never had the need or quite frankly the desire to go into Besame Cosmetics. I just assumed they wouldn’t have anything for me, or it would be way too expensive because it’s a boutique. But I was wrong all around! The shop in itself is so adorable. They have a ton of vintage makeup on display, and all their products are based off of actual vintage makeup shades and products they have found. If you want to create a new look for Dapper Day, you must hit up this shop. The employees were so helpful too. I asked them what shade would be best for me and they were spot on. They picked this shade, Chocolate Kiss, that I would have NEVER picked for myself. I tried it on and I liked it, but then I tried a couple of my go-to shades and you know what? Chocolate Kiss was the clear winner. And I received compliments on it all night (even my husband, who isn’t a big on heavy makeup, said it looks really natural). SOLD!
I also purchased this sheer lip glaze called Black Licorice. And yes, it has the faint smell of black licorice but you can’t taste it while you’re wearing it. It’s an amazing shade! The picture below is me wearing it over the Chocolate Kiss but you can also wear it on its own, or pair it with their Noir lipstick, which is REALLY bold, as you can imagine. It’s not sticky and just adds more of a sheen than the regular lipstick alone. You guys … I think maybe I’m finally into the whole lipstick thing. It only took 34 years.
The party also featured gluten-free vegan treats from Pure Sweetery. Really good breads and what I can only describe as a frozen smoothie samples. Everything was really yummy. They also featured drinks from Triple Voodoo and sadly I could not partake due to my barley intolerance. I hope the beer-only refreshments is not a trend for this conference! Because you know the main reason I go to these things is the free booze. (Kidding …. or am I?)
Let’s talk for a second about the awesome people I met. I finally got to met Chris Lam of What I Run Into and Cup of Joe Social, and she’s as funny and adorable in person as she is on the Internet. I also met new friend Jennifer of Real Mom of SFV who heard me talking about Disney with someone else and said “my ears perked up” and I was like OMG WE NEED TO BE FRIENDS and then we talked about Disney for an hour. And I gushed over her Aulani Dooney and now I really want to go to Aulani. Oof. And there were many other fabulous ladies I got to know tonight, and will continue to get to know over the next couple of days.
Oh, and the swag. Let’s talk about the swag. The first 50 people received a swag bag, and I arrived 10 minutes late and wouldn’t you know the place was already packed. Because bloggers love. their. swag. I got one of the last bags and I’m super pleased with the quality of the items. First, a little makeup back from Besame that included a lipstick sampler. LOVE. JustFab provided a full on handbag, jump drive, AND pink nail polish (!!!!!). It’s like they KNOW ME. The swag also included a TCBY gift card, YouTheory revive supplements, a toothbrush from Source, and two eye pencils and a little compact from Sum!ta. Along with several brochures from local businesses. Major score and this is just the kickoff party swag bag. *faints*
I want to send this post with a big thank you to Ana Lydia, Carolyn, and Melissa (and anyone else involved with running the conference) for putting on such a great party, and thank you to Besame Cosmetics for hosting. If the party was any indication, I am in for a heck of a conference.
