In honor of my just completed honeymoon, I am happy to bring you a honeymoon guest post today! You might remember them from their at-home Disney wedding (one of my most popular posts EVAR), and now Amber and Thomas are back to tell you all about their honeymoon at Walt Disney World. WDW is not only a wonderful place to get married, it’s a GREAT place to spend your honeymoon! It seems Disney went “to infinity and beyond” to make Amber and Thomas’ honeymoon a memorable vacation. Take it away, Amber!

Hi all! My name is Amber and my prince is Thomas! Being Disney obsessed from a young age I knew the mouse would have a hand in my wedding. Although I wasn’t married on Disney property- our at-home Disney wedding was everything I could have hoped for. We got married on 11/11/11 in Litchfield Beach, SC (right outside of Myrtle Beach). It was no surprise that we decided on a very appropriate “Disneymoon!” With “Just Married” buttons and Bride & Groom ears in tow, we were off to Orlando the morning after our wedding. (Sidenote- Thomas had agreed to wear his Mickey Groom Hat everywhere- it was in his vows… so it was legit)
The weather decided to be crazy for November and be ridiculously cold- we had to scrape ice off our windshield before leaving for FL. We checked in at the French Quarter where we received the first of many magical moments or “pixie dust” as we got a corner room with a river view and king bed. “Disney GOLD” I told Thomas. We ate at O’hana and then made our way to the Magic Kingdom. I had booked a Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party so we got to watch Wishes alongside delicious eats and treats.
It was truly magical to be with my now husband in one of my favorite places in the world. But one of the best moments happened later in the evening, as the park was open that night until 2 am. We rode Splash Mountain (which we later agreed was not the best decision when it was 30 degrees out…), we strolled hand in hand as the park slowly emptied and at times it was like we had our own private park. Every ride was was a walk-on and we were almost by ourselves. Our biggest feat was completing everything in FantasyLand in 20 minutes and taking pictures of the castle on our way out. We had both never been during the winter- so it was our first time seeing all the Christmas stuff.
Throughout the week we received more congratulations than I have ever had in my whole life. We splurged and got the Deluxe Dining Plan which was more food than I ever thought was humanly possible- including extra desserts alongside our already included desserts!
We were up at dawn with character breakfasts and closed down every park almost every night. We kept trying to use our snack credits but every time we tried to buy something we were told it was a “gift from Mickey” and “Congratulations!” Needless to say we were buying tons of bagged candy on the last day to use our credits!
There are so many magical memories that we experienced its hard to list them all. Disney truly does know how to spoil you! Some highlights that still make me smile until this day include:
Eating at Donald’s Safari breakfast and we were asked to be in the Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom.
We got special VIP director’s chair seating at the Lights, Motor, Action Stuntshow along with Reserved Seating at Indiana Jones.
We got to have a “Just Married” sign on our car at the Tomorrowland Speedway.
Watching Wishes from our window view at the California Grill.
Pluto and Minnie demanding that Thomas come take a picture with me while he was waiting in the Animation Drawing Class Line.
Dinner at Cinderella’s Table
Awesome Photopass Photographers!
Attending our first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade
It was one of the best weeks of my life and it was truly magical. Cast Members and fellow guests were what truly made it special. It was also the birthplace of our Pin Trading addiction… we might have spent our entire honeymoon gift card on pins … it might have gotten out of hand.
I would recommend Disney as a Honeymoon or romantic getaway in a heartbeat! I did months and months of research and planned close to a year out, but that is also because I am a planning nerd. But do remember to book dining at least 180 days out if you are staying on property! Always let people know what you are celebrating! Buy a Photopass in advance! It was so convenient to have someone else take the pictures and not always having to ask someone! And of course… Have fun and enjoy!! I leave you with my favorite pictures from each one of the parks!
Big thanks and shout-out to Mindy for letting me share our magical honeymoon! 🙂
