A long time ago, when we first got engaged, Chris and I saw the signing mats at Michaels for graduates and wondered…. “We bet we could use one of those as our guest book. It would be awesome if we could do a Mickey-Shaped one!”  Well, just under two years later….We have our Mickey-Shaped guest signature mat! Here are the steps we took to make this lovely DIY dream!

Step One:  First we looked into ordering a Mickey cut out of matting at Michaels. It didn’t work out, so for $60.00 and some change, we got a 24 x 36 matting with a circle cut out of the center.

Step Two:  When we got the matting from Michaels, we also had them give us two circles cut out of matting. I laid those out on the main mat, and we measured every measurement possible to get the angles correct and those ears looking good! After we traced the circles, we then spent about the next two hours SLOWLY cutting out the ears.

Step Three:  We placed it in a frame [ready-made, bought at Michaels for 25 bucks with a coupon!] and also added a small plaque we bought at Michaels [for about 8.00 with a coupon]. For the picture, we used one of our Engagement photos that seemed to be a good fit!  The glass will be removed at the wedding so guests can sign the mat.  Then when the wedding is over, the glass goes back on and it’s a nice keepsake to hang in our home!
