Hello! Welcome to my Blogging and Income Report for October 2015. I had a really great September as far as income and I knew October would be a bit of a disappointment, and that turned out to be an understatement. Unfortunately my income really tanked even though my page views were up. The Internet is weird, you guys! I’ll take a more detailed look at everything below, but let’s just say I’m focusing on a strong November & December to finish out the year.
Blogging and Income Report – October 2015
Starting with my goals from the previous month. I relaunched mindyjoymedia.com on my Let Go Day, as planning. Yay, something went according to plan! I also hosted my first Social Media Marketing webinar and I think it went pretty well! I’m looking forward to doing more training webinars in 2016. I haven’t created any gift guides yet, but I have a list of ideas ready to go.
October is always a great month for BFT because of my annual Sexy Disney Halloween Costumes post. It always gets shared a lot, and I won’t call it a “viral” post but it’s pretty much as close I expect to get to one. So I’m not shocked my traffic was up 20% compared to September! In fact, if it weren’t for my crazy April (when one of my posts actually DID go viral), October would be my highest traffic month for the year. So, great news on this front.
My referral sources for October – Google, Pinterest, Direct traffic, Facebook, and Yahoo. I got a big boost on Facebook thanks to my Halloween Costumes post.
Not so great news for IBD, where my traffic continues to slip. Not as drastic as the slip from August to September, but I’m still going in the wrong direction. I think it’s about time to do my best Winnie the Pooh impression and “think think think” about what’s going on over there. I love IBD and I think it has great potential, I just have to be more strategic with my content and my social sharing, I think.
My referral sources for October were Pinterest, Google, Direct traffic, and Feedburner/Pinterest, and Facebook.
Other October Happenings
As I mentioned earlier, I hosted my first webinar about Social Media Marketing. I was happy with my turnout and hope to do more, and perhaps turn those recordings into a form of passive income. Big picture ideas! I spent a lot of time in October working on mindyjoymedia.com and my webinar, and I also attended an online conference about social marketing. All of this means less time for writing last month, but hopefully it will all pay off.
(Pssst – want to stay in the loop about future webinars? Go to mindyjoymedia.com and sign up for my email updates.)
Here’s what I earned in October. I list the earnings by network, and then state the specific brands/shops in parenthesis. If I didn’t make any money through a specific affiliate channel, I will leave it off the list (all those zeros could get depressing)!
(Keep in mind this is just money I’m making through my websites. I also have a few other part time jobs which I am not including here.)
Affiliates (some of the links below contain my affiliate code)
Total revenue for September 2015 = $328.78.
– Total revenue the previous month = $1248.07.
– Difference: -$919.29
That’s enough to buy about 82 Disneyland churros! (Because I’m motivated by food, y’all.)
Sad trombone. That’s a big drop and I can’t help but feel depressed about it, even though I *know* my blog revenue will fluctuate every month. Nothing to do now but analyze where I can improve and try to do better for this month.
Things I need to work on:
Since brand opportunities are hard to come by lately, I need to focus hard on affiliate revenue. More posts with affiliate links, like the aforementioned gift guides. I usually see a bump around the holidays anyway, but I really want to crush it this year.
That’s it for now! Thank you for reading. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer! I also would like to know if the information I’m providing is helpful or what else you would want to see/learn from an income report. Let me know how I can help you! Have a great month, everyone!
