Hello! Welcome to my Blogging and Income Report for December 2017! My January has been incredibly busy and it feels weird to be still writing about 2017 this far into the new year, but it must be done! December tends to be a little lean for page views and this year was no exception but overall I’m pleased with how the month, and the year, turned out.
Blogging and Income Report – December 2017
Starting with last months goals. January tends to be all about goal setting and making plans for the upcoming year, but I’m a little behind thanks to my WDW trip and the Joy Social course I’m currently teaching. But I’ll get there!
I experienced a big drop in November and I happily did not fall too far below those numbers in December. It’s never fun to see numbers in the red but the good news it I’ve already surpassed these numbers for January.
My top referral sources for December were the usuals – Google, Pinterest, Direct traffic, Facebook, and Bing.
2017 in Review
2017 marks the fourth year of doing these blogging reports and the third year of doing income reports. I’m really glad I do it; not only does it force me to stay on top of my stats but I love getting emails and messages from you guys when you learn something here and it’s successful for your blog. Those kind of messages are my favorite!! So I’ll keep doing these reports for 2018. Now that I have a few years completed, it’s fascinating to look back on them and see how much I’ve grown and changed.
Let’s dive into some of these numbers, shall we?
Stats for 2017:
Page Views: 734,309
Truth be told, my stats dropped a lot compared to 2016. Which is frustrating. BUT my income increased, which is the number I really care about. Buuuuuut … raising my stats is certainly a goal for this year. I’d love to not only surpass my 2017 numbers but my 2016 numbers as well.
Taking a look at last year’s stats …
Page Views: 950,317
So as you can see my Unique Visitors didn’t drop too much, but my Page Views really tanked. I can’t change the past but I can certainly learn from it and move on. My big goal – 1 million Page Views in 2018!
Other December Happenings
What DOESN’T happen in December?!? It’s always a crazy month, topped with marathon training this year … I’m stressed out now just thinking back on it.
Here’s what I earned in December 2017. I list the earnings by network, and then state the specific brands/shops in parenthesis. If I didn’t make any money through a specific affiliate channel, I will leave it off the list (all those zeros could get depressing)!
(Keep in mind I’m only sharing the revenue I generate through my websites and social media accounts.)
Sponsored Content – $600
Affiliates (some of the links below contain my affiliate code)
Total revenue for December 2017 = $1797.43.
– Total revenue the previous month = $1975.24.
– Difference: -$177.81
Honestly December should be my strongest month for revenue with all of the holiday online shopping that takes place but it just …. wasn’t. It wasn’t good. I was hoping to break $2000 in December and I didn’t get there. I feel like I put in a maximum amount of effort with promoting affiliate links and I certainly got close, but I for some reason I completely tanked with my usual strong shopping sites like Amazon and Etsy. What’s up, Internet? Time to stop putting so much emphasis on holiday revenue and work more on year-round revenue.
Total revenue for 2017 = $17,229.58.
– Total revenue the previous year = $12,752.37.
– Difference: $4477.21
Soooo … less traffic, but more money. I’ll take it! My secret goal was to get to $20,000 with blog revenue which would have been a big leap over the previous year. Despite not reaching my goal, I’m very happy with this number.
Things I need to work on:
While things are “slow” I have a lot of tiny projects I want to work on. I want to switch my email provider, create some new freebies for email list members, set up some recurring Facebook and Instagram ads, clean up old outdated blog posts … that’s just off the top of my head. I have a big list I’ve been adding to all year (now, where did I put that list ….)
That’s it for now! Thank you for reading. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer! I also would like to know if the information I’m providing is helpful or what else you would want to see/learn from an income report. Let me know how I can help you! Have a great YEAR, everyone!
