Vintage Disneyland Postcards

When I was in Salt Lake City, UT last month for a blogging conference, my good friend Carly from the Disney weddings blog Magical Day Weddings took me to a vintage book store. She said sometimes she finds good Disney stuff there. She was NOT kidding around. This shop was the biggest vintage book store I have ever seen, and they had rows of Disney postcards to sift through. We were in there for a good hour, at least!

Carly gave me the tip to check the backs for correspondence from the postcard sender. I would have never thought to check that on my own!

Since my heart belongs to Disneyland, I purchased three vintage Disneyland postcards to take home with me.

This one sadly has no date, but judging by the clothing I’m guessing this is late 1970s or early 1980s. The Matterhorn is my favorite ride, so for 50 cents I couldn’t pass this one up.

This Jungle Cruise postcard is postmarked 1963. I love the vintage boats and outfits. I also like that little Anna referred to Disneyland as “pretty” and kept careful count of the number of rides she went on.

This final one is my favorite, for so many reasons. First, it’s postmarked November 1955, just four months after Disneyland opened. Second, the caption on the postcards refers to the “Gay Nineties” – the 1890s! And finally, DAD’S GOT JOKES.

“Dear Pete – Maybe next year we will get a new car like this. Love, Dad.” Can’t you just see Pete rolling his eyes at Dad’s corny jokes?
