Here it is:

DRESS SHOPPING, ROUND ONE.  Mindy vs the wedding dress industry.

Now that I have found my dress, I thought it would be fun, or at least slightly humiliating, to look back through all the dresses (approx 60 of them) that didn’t make the cut.

The first wedding dress outing took place at a bridal shop in Glendale.  Here’s the thing about me.  I don’t wear dresses, and I never ever wear white.  The last thing I want to wear EVER is a white dress.  Yet, here I was, making appointments to try on poofy white dresses.  I had a sinking feeling in my stomach the entire drive to the first shop.  I had visions of that episode of Sex and the City where Carrie tries on wedding dresses and breaks out in hives.

And then, I get the first dress on … and it wasn’t so bad.  It took me a while to warm up to it, but by the end of the day, I admitted it was actually fun.

My consultant was okay.  I gave her a quick description of what I wanted – something interesting, something with color, some kind of sleeve or the ability to add sleeves, NO STARK WHITE, tea length, something to go with a daytime garden theme.   Overall she was very nice and attentive but I feel like she just pulled random things.

Without further ado, I give you, ZEE DRESS P0RN.

(Props to my FMIL for taking all these pics on her phone even though photography wasn’t allowed.  Also props to my friends Marcia and Valerie for the moral support and honest opinions.)

DRESS #1
Maggie Sottero – Shelby.  The color is alabaster and I really liked that it wasn’t bright white.

Since this was the first dress, I liked it, but after trying on others I know this is not “the one.”

DRESS #2

I can’t remember if this was a Maggie or not, I don’t think so.  But the general consensus was that it’s a bit “old” for me.  (Notice the clenched fists and look of trepidation on my face.)

(BTW I told them I wanted a pink sash and this is what they brought. No.)

DRESS #3

Another nameless Maggie.  Didn’t love the white and didn’t love the flower, but this was a favorite all around.  Notice I unclenched my fists, yay!

But then I made this face –  which pretty much sums up how I feel about shopping for wedding dresses.

DRESS #4
Maggie – Catarina

I liked the neckline of this one but not the lace.

They showed me this flower sash I could put across my shoulder.  Errrr….

DRESS #5
Here’s the one tea length dress they had.

My friend tried to reign it in a bit, which made it slightly better but still not what I was looking for.

This produced my first almost smile of the appointment.

DRESS #6
I asked my consultant if I could try on a mermaid shape, just to see how it looked.  She brought me a bright white dress.

Notice the clinched fists are back.

I didn’t mind the shape and I liked the sparkly belt, but I pretty much hated this dress.  NEXT!

DRESS #7
Sottoro & Midgley – Adorae Louise

The consultant picked this because it had sleeves, but she didn’t realize until she got it out of the bag that this was a plus sized dress.  It was a size 24 and I’m a 10!!!!  So she got some clips and clipped it back so I could get a general idea of the shape.  So I supposed it’s a testament to how much I loved this dress that I loved it even though I was swimming in it.

DRESS #8
This was by Allure, style #8750.

I liked the strap, but notice the one clinched fist.

I did manage a smile, though.

So what do you all think?  Which are your favorites?  It is normal to clinch your fists when trying on dresses???  Because it is for me!
