So, while I’m super bummed we are no longer visiting Crete and Croatia during our honeymoon, I am excited to be stopping in France! Our port is Toulon, which is in the Provence area. And if I sit down by a fountain and there’s no sheep there gnawing at my iPad, I’ll be very put out.
Toulon is described as a military port and seems a little boring. A lot of people take a day trip to Aix-en-Provence, which is a quaint classically French town with lots of cafes and shops, about an hour’s taxi ride from Toulon. Originally we were thinking about spending our day here, but considering it’s our first stop, and we will probably still feel jet lagged and exhausted from our trip, we decided to stay close to port and not have any major plans.
Nearby Bandol is described as a gentle seaside resort and “ville tranquille” by this website (I like the sound of that). Bandol seems famous for its sheltered beaches and rosé wines – I’m not sure what more I can ask for on vacation.
A little further down the road is Cassis, a fishing village that attracts tourists because of the impressive limestone rocks jetting out of the crystal ocean which creates little inlets, called the calanques. Apparently it’s not at all difficult to hire a boater to take you around the calanques for a few Euros. It is described as an amazing sight.
So that’s our plan for France. I hope we have nice weather and I’m feeling human enough to explore France a little bit.
