Hello from the Adriatic Sea! It’s Sunday morning here and the last full day of our cruise, and as I type we are headed towards Venice for a 2pm local time arrival. My new cruise pals Mark and Kent gave me some free internet time they won by playing pub trivia so here I am to give you all a proper update.
The last 12 days have been totally amazing and have flown by way too quickly. I could use another 12 days on the ship, honestly. While I miss some things – like communicating with my friends, writing, and my Keurig – there are a lot of things I’ll miss about being on vacation, like the endless food, Ed the bartender who made my daily margaritas, and Nengah our room steward who made my bed and cleaned the bathroom every day. (I invited Nengah to come live with us. He politely declined.)
So it turns out Europe is totally awesome. Here’s a quick rundown of the highlights:
Barcelona – Beautiful architecture, the gothic quarter, easy to navigate metro system
Bandol, France – Cheap wine, friendly locals, secluded beaches, croissants
Florence, Italy – Giant canolis for one Euro, climbing the Duomo for a breathtaking city view
Rome, Italy – Great pizza, the Forum ruins, gelato
Naples, Italy – Lemoncello, the charm of Sorrento
Mykonos, Greece – Feta cheese, lots of cats, getting lost in the twisty roads and walkways
Istanbul, Turkey – Unbeatable skyline, amazing food, Turkish Delight, the chaos of the Grand Bazaar
Ephesus, Turkey – Impressive ruins, more amazing food
Athens, Greece – Greek temples, Ouzo, more cats
Venice, Italy – ???
As for the cruise itself, the ship is really nice and we have gotten the total VIP treatment. Norwegian is a great cruise line and I would be happy to sail with them again. (We may have stayed up way too late last night looking over the future NCL cruise itineraries – Panama Canal, you’re looking mighty fine.)
I’ll be home in a couple days with full reports on the ship and each city and more of my usual blab. For now, here are a few pictures. Ciao!
