Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re having a great week so far. It was over a month ago when I shared a picture of these DIY bleach heart jeans on Instagram and so many you loved it. I promised to write up how I made them, and here it is! I really couldn’t believe how easy this was and how great they turned out. And I still can’t believe my luck, stumbling upon these Radiant Orchid jeans in a used clothing store. How could someone possibly give them up?!? Oh well, their loss is my gain, for sure!
All you need for this project is a pair of jeans and a bleach gel pen. I recommend practicing on a pair of jeans you don’t care about, and testing it first in an inconspicuous place. For these, I did a test heart on the inside of the very bottom of one of the legs, where if it bled through, no one would really notice. Luckily it worked well, so I proceeded to tackle the front of the pants. It was a little scary at first but they came out exactly like I had pictured in my head. Dontcha love when that happens?
DIY Bleach Heart Jeans
Supplies
Old pair of jeans
Bleach gel pen (I used Clorox)
White sewing pencil
Ruler
Cardboard
Steps
Step 1: Stuff the inside of the jeans with cardboard so the bleach doesn’t bleed through to the other side. Make sure you do this step really carefully and thoroughly so you don’t have any accidents!
Step 2: Using the ruler and the white sewing pencil, mark out your pattern. I decided to do my hearts in a checkerboard pattern, so I would space one vertical row two inches apart, then I would measure one inch over and one inch down, and then start the next vertical row. It is tough to see the dots in the picture here, but hopefully this will make more sense when you get a closer look at the finished project.
Step 3: Use the small tip of the gel pen to draw a chunky “V” over your dots. This is how I made my hearts! I was going for a unique, freehand look, but if you want your hearts to look more uniform you could use a heart stencil or stamp.
Step 4: Let dry for a couple hours. If some hearts didn’t come out right, you can re-do them and let dry again. I let my jeans dry overnight before I washed them.
Step 5: Wash and wear!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks for reading!
