Hello! Welcome to my Blogging and Income Report for March 2016! I’m so excited for this report since this will be the first full month after my transition to This Fairy Tale Life. Lots of interesting stats and numbers to compare and at first glance, I’m really happy with everything. My “new” blog has a long way to go but I feel like March was, perhaps not my highest traffic month or my highest revenue month, but my best month of blogging in nearly five years. I feel refreshed and energized with my new site name and layout. Hooray for taking big steps and doing scary things!
Blogging and Income Report – March 2016
My goals for March were to get back to writing more consistent content (after taking “time off” during my site redesign), and hopefully get some sponsored content, which did not happen. But that’s okay – I’m still very happy with March’s results. I published 23 posts in March which is fantastic (my loose goal is 20 posts per month so I’m above average!) and I had a really great month with affiliate revenue.
Since this is my first full month of This Fairy Tale Life, I don’t have prior monthly stats to compare. But overall I had a really great month, considering I have lost a bit of Google traffic with my site URL change. I ended the month with 84,470 page views and 58,367 unique visitors. Compare that to my prior two sites COMBINED traffic for January (my last full month of both sites), which was 103,302 page views and 54,225 unique visitors. What can I learn from this? Not much, to be honest. The reason being I had a MAJOR boost in traffic around St. Patrick’s Day thanks to a cocktail recipe going nutso on Pinterest. That will not be a monthly occurrence and is skewing my stats a little bit. This is not at all a complaint. But let’s just say I’ll be doing a major happy dance when This Fairy Tale Life hits 100,000 page views in one month – not only because it seems like a nice milestone, but also because that’s around the traffic statistic of my prior two sites combined.
My top referral sources for March – Direct traffic, Google, Pinterest, Facebook, and Feedburner/Pinterest.
Side note – Something is amiss at Pinterest. A lot of bloggers have noticed a major drop in Pinterest traffic around mid-March, and a slight increase in Direct traffic. Pinterest has acknowledged the problem and is not yet sure why some traffic through Pinterest is showing up as Direct traffic. So in reality, Pinterest is likely my #1 traffic source this month but I have no way to prove that. Blogging is so weird, you guys.
Other March Happenings
To be honest, March was a pretty slow month for my personal life, which was just what I needed to get my website back into the swing of things. April is shaping up to be much more chaotic, but more on that in next month’s report.
Here’s what I earned in March 2016. I list the earnings by network, and then state the specific brands/shops in parenthesis. If I didn’t make any money through a specific affiliate channel, I will leave it off the list (all those zeros could get depressing)!
(Keep in mind this is just money I’m making through my websites. I also have a few other part time jobs which I am not including here.)
Sponsored Content – $0
Affiliates (some of the links below contain my affiliate code)
Total revenue for March 2016 = $950.07.
– Total revenue the previous month = $564.76.
– Difference: $385.31
This is actually my second highest revenue month of all time, which is pretty impressive since I had no sponsored content this month. Some of my affiliate programs exploded in March. My Etsy sales nearly doubled from the previous month, without me doing anything new or different. I had strong sales through Wayfair and Amazon by optimizing a post about ceiling lighting that has been doing well on Pinterest (which also involves me kicking myself hard for not optimizing it months ago). Obviously in this business there will always be ups and downs but seeing the amount of revenue that’s possible using affiliate links fills me with a nerdy glee.
Things I need to work on:
In April I really want to see some sponsored content come through, but otherwise my focus is continuing to put out regular content and back-end clean up. (Once again – if you see anything on my site that looks weird, please tell me!)
That’s it for now! Thank you for reading. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer! I also would like to know if the information I’m providing is helpful or what else you would want to see/learn from an income report. Let me know how I can help you! Have a great month, everyone!
