Hello! Welcome to my Blogging and Income Report for January 2016! Gosh, what a crazy year it has been so far. As you know, my new site finally went live a couple days ago, which is very exciting! I’ve spent the last couple days doing little behind the scenes tweaks which I have a feeling will be never ending, and at some point I will have to … how should I put this … let it go. But for now I’m doing my best to monitor my traffic (okay, perhaps obsessively) to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible. But I’ll talk about all THAT in NEXT month’s report.
This will be my last monthly blogging and income report that analyzes my two separate blogs and let me tell you, I’m SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT. Having just one blog is going to make these reports so much easier, and will more accurately reflect my traffic and revenue – meaning that I won’t have to worry about which site is the one generating income and from what source (more behind the scenes stats and numbers that I didn’t include here).
Despite being a little checked out in January while I focused on rebranding, I had a fantastic month overall. Let’s take a look!
Blogging and Income Report – January 2016
Starting with my goals from the previous month. I didn’t set any specific goals for January because I knew I’d be busy with rebranding – in fact I predicted I’d be very busy with back-end, broken link, missing images clean-up and I was right! I wouldn’t be surprised if that remains my top goal for a few months.
After a slow December, which is standard in blog-land, I bounced back a bit in January, with my stats showing a 10% increase in visitors. In fact, I had my third best month in the last 12 months.
My top referral sources for January – Google, Pinterest, Direct traffic, Facebook, and Bing.
Inspired By Dis had a MAJOR rebound, which was such a pleasant surprise after months of decline. This was my best month since July 2015. I’ve gone through my analytics and can’t find one singular reason for the increase – which is great. Since this is my last full month monitoring IBD, I’m happy to transition out on a high note.
My top referral sources for January were Pinterest, Google, Direct traffic, and Feedburner/Pinterest, and Facebook.
Other January Happenings
Towards the end of January I decided to add some Amazon native ads to the bottom of my most popular posts. The ads will show eight Amazon products related to the post and will hopefully boost my Amazon affiliate revenue. You can see an example of the native ads at the bottom of this Flush-Mount Lighting post. And I can tell you in February I made three ceiling lighting sales through Amazon, so I can safely say it’s working.
Here’s what I earned in January 2016. I list the earnings by network, and then state the specific brands/shops in parenthesis. If I didn’t make any money through a specific affiliate channel, I will leave it off the list (all those zeros could get depressing)!
(Keep in mind this is just money I’m making through my websites. I also have a few other part time jobs which I am not including here.)
Sponsored Content – $255
Affiliates (some of the links below contain my affiliate code)
Amazon – $36.36
ShopSense – $3.99
Commission Junction – $5.89 (Disney Store)
Share-a-Sale – $61.96 (Shutterfly, RedBubble, Wayfair)
Skimlinks – $4.43
Affiliate Window – $124.57 (Etsy)
Izea – $16.00
Escalate – $7.20
Total revenue for January 2016 = $726.78.
– Total revenue the previous month = $730.18.
– Difference: -$3.40
I’m very happy with January’s revenue numbers, considering December is such a strong month for affiliate sales. Also, comparing the figure to January 2015 (which was the first month I started tracking my income), I’ve quadrupled my revenue. I’ve come so far in the past year, and I’m not sure I would really appreciate it if I weren’t doing these monthly reports.
Things I need to work on:
Back-end clean up for the rest of my life.
That’s it for now! Thank you for reading. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer! I also would like to know if the information I’m providing is helpful or what else you would want to see/learn from an income report. Let me know how I can help you! Have a great month, everyone!
