Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great start to the new year. Getting back into the regular routine after holiday break is never easy, and this crazy downpour we are experiencing in California is not helping my productivity levels. BUT, I want to do a quick announcement to let you know what I’m working on behind the scenes.
If you’ve been following my blogs for a while, you may remember I used to have FOUR blogs that I actively maintained. At the beginning of 2014 I narrowed them down to two – Budget Fairy Tale and Inspired By Dis. These were the two blogs I was the most excited about and where my passion clearly was. And while maintaining two blogs is much easier than four, there have still been some challenges.
For over a year now I have been searching and struggling for the best solution for me. I love both websites and really wanted to keep writing about all the same topics – Disney, Weddings, Travel, RunDisney, Disneyland, Recipes, Financial Advice, Blogging, etc. etc. – but felt like I couldn’t combine them all. Neither blog seemed to be the appropriate umbrella for all those things. In a way, I convinced myself I needed to have my Lifestyle blog and my Disney blog, and that’s just how it had to be.
But a couple months ago I received a big wake up call. I applied to work with a certain company and I was turned down. Generally in these situations, companies are very vague with their denial responses (IF you get a response at all), but this company spelled it out for me: They couldn’t work with me because the word “budget” didn’t align with their brand message. I wanted to respond to them and say, “But I’m not a budget blog! It’s just an …” and that’s when I realized. My blog name does not fit who I am anymore. As much as I’m in love with my blog name, it does not fit with what I write about and if we’re being honest, it doesn’t describe my life anymore. I’m still me, my writing style hasn’t changed and the things I love and am passion about haven’t changed. But my blog name had become outdated.
I started Budget Fairy Tale in August 2011 while we were planning our wedding at Disneyland. This was nearly five years ago now, and a lot has changed. We were on a strict budget and struggled to have the wedding day we wanted. I wanted to show other brides and grooms they could get married at Disneyland on a tight budget and still have the fairy tale day they wanted. The name served me well for quite some time but as my lifestyle has evolved, so should my blog.
After this incident with this company, I hunkered down and really got into brainstorming mode. After several late nights, a lot of dinner conversation with my husband, and many lattes with my mastermind group and blogging friends, I feel like I’ve decided on a blogging strategy and new name that is going to suit my current lifestyle and all of the things I love to write about. So very soon, I will be combining both Budget Fairy Tale and Inspired By Dis into one blog, titled:
I decided on the name This Fairy Tale Life because I do view my life as a bit of a fairy tale. Perhaps a modern fairy tale, and perhaps not everyone’s idea of a fairy tale, but it’s my own little fairy tale none-the-less. But more than that, my goal with my blog has always been to inspire and help others, so when you come to my site I don’t want you to see “My Fairy Tale Life” or “A Fairy Tale Life.” No, this is YOUR fairy tale life. OUR fairy tale life. Each and every one of us deserves to live our best life, our best fairy tale. We all deserve good things, and magic, and hopefulness, and happiness. I want you to remember everyone’s fairy tale is different and deserves to be celebrated. I hope with every article I write and every post I put up, you are somehow inspired to take action, to make something, to cook something, to help someone, to improve your life or make some aspect of it easier, or perhaps give you something to think about or to consider a new perspective, or perhaps just make you laugh or provide some extra pretty for your day. But above all I want you to remember that your life, this fairy tale life that we all lead, is beautiful and precious.
My developer is working hard to create the perfect site for me, and I hope you will love it. I’m not exactly sure when the switch over will happen but things may be a little wonky for a few days when it does. But I’ll keep you all updated via my social media channels. Speaking of social media, I’m going to try (key word, try) to combine my two Facebook pages and change the name. Will Facebook actually let me do this? WHO KNOWS! I love a good mystery. So be sure to follow me on Twitter (which will not be changing) so you can stay in the loop if there is any blog downtime.
Finally, I want to thank you all for continuing on this journey with me. Whether you’re a reader from Day 1 or this is your first visit to my blog, I want you to know I appreciate you so much. I notice and value every comment and social share. This is truly the best job I’ve ever had and it wouldn’t be possible without each of you. Thank you from every inch of my heart.
